SSO: the Zhang Renqing memorial concert went on sale at 12:20 today; Shanghai Concert Hall publishes Grosvenor's programme, and the Thomas recital starts at 17:30

One performance in the chamber hall on 26 September at 19:15, five tiers from ¥80 to ¥380, four tickets per order. Nineteen numbers, twelve singers, Tsung Yeh as artistic director. Full programmes also appeared for Benjamin Grosvenor on 3 October and for Camille Thomas and Julien Brocal on 11 October, whose curtain is 17:30.

Shanghai classical concerts, September 2026: the top 10

Fifty-five concerts in Shanghai this September; these are ten of them, ranked, each with date, hall, price and ticket status. Two of the ten are already sold out. One thing visible only across three houses' programmes: Bach's Chaconne is played by three different violinists in eleven days.

SHOAC | Petrenko and the Royal Philharmonic on 9 November, tickets open 28 August at 14:00

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra brings its eightieth-anniversary season to Shanghai for one night on 9 November at the SHOAC Concert Hall. Tickets open on 28 August at 14:00; prices have not been published. Three works: Butterworth, Tan Dun's Wolf Totem for double bass, and Stravinsky's Petrushka in the 1947 version. Separately, the Volchok piano recital of 27 September has been cancelled.

SSO | Anderszewski recital went on sale 27 August at 15:00, two works confirmed

The Anderszewski recital on 2 December went on sale at 15:00 on 27 August, through both the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra website and its WeChat mini-program, five bands from 100 to 480 yuan, four tickets per order. Bartók's Fourteen Bagatelles and Beethoven's Op. 111 are confirmed; four more works are pending.

Why October's concerts collide, and August is so empty

As of 26 August, Shanghai Concerts lists 110 performances in October with 26 same-minute clashes, against 11 in August. The crowding comes from season openings, a single 19:30 curtain and the weekends. National Day week is an ordinary week.

SHOAC | Lang Lang plays only one of the Vienna Philharmonic two nights

The Vienna Philharmonic plays two nights at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, on 19 and 20 October, and the programmes are entirely different. Lang Lang appears only on the 19th, as soloist in Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto; the 20th is Mozart's Fortieth and Tchaikovsky's Fourth with no soloist. The two nights are ticketed separately across nine price bands from ¥380 to ¥2880, and the two cheapest are real-name only.

Shanghai Philharmonic | Two September chamber concerts, tickets from ¥80

The Shanghai Philharmonic's Approach SPO chamber series plays twice in September, on the 12th and the 19th, both in the orchestra's own recital hall at 1498 Wuding Road West, with three price bands at ¥80 / 121 / 221. The 12th is an evening of arrangements, cello and wind sextet in Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, Fauré and Saint-Saëns; the 19th is Ravel, Liszt, Milhaud and Dvořák, with the Liszt played on the harp.

Shanghai Grand Theatre | Phantom December dates on sale, closing night sold out

The last 16 performances of the Phantom of the Opera 40th-anniversary Shanghai farewell season, 15 to 27 December, went on public sale at 11:00 on 25 August, which puts all 102 sittings of the run on sale. Checked sitting by sitting at 13:30 the same day, the closing night on 27 December already reads sold out. The earliest seat still available anywhere in the run is the matinee of 11 October, and most of what is left is in December.

Site Update: The Largest Indoor Theatre in Shanghai Was Not in Our Index

The August 17 maintenance pass. It started with one WeChat link about a Lang Lang recital and turned up something worse: BOCOM New Bund 31, a 2,500-seat house and the largest indoor theatre in the city, had never been in our venue table, while six of its permits had sat in our own archive since March. It is in now, with the two concerts there that are days away.

Site Update: Every Morning Until Eight, We Thought It Was Still Yesterday

The August 16 maintenance pass. First, a bug we found ourselves: the site worked out what day it was from the server's timezone, and the server runs in UTC, eight hours behind Shanghai. So between midnight and eight every morning, concerts that had already finished were still listed as upcoming. Fixed. Nineteen concerts listed a full programme and not one performer; sixteen of them now name the players, and ten pages that carried the promoter's marketing copy carry ours instead.

Currentzis and musicAeterna Return in October: Shanghai Date and Venue Still Unannounced

Wu Promotion announced on August 7 that Teodor Currentzis will bring musicAeterna to Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing from October 11 to 19, 2026 — five concerts, two programs (all-Mozart and all-Beethoven), with pianist Eva Gevorgyan as soloist. The announcement gives no per-city dates, venues, prices or on-sale times. We checked the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism permit record, current through August 4: no permit has been issued for this tour, and until one is, the Shanghai date cannot go on sale.

An On-Sale Calendar, and the Argerich Festival Opens Tomorrow at 2pm

A new on-sale calendar orders every announced ticket release by the moment it opens, covering 109 concerts so far. The Argerich, Vengerov and Isserlis chamber festival goes on sale 6 August at 2pm, checked against the government permit and the venue API. We also fixed a long-standing bug in collections and an eight-hour error in on-sale times.

Argerich at 85: Two Nights in Shanghai, Three Concerts in Taiwan

Martha Argerich comes to East Asia twice this autumn. Two nights of chamber music at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center on 24 and 25 October with Vengerov, Isserlis and three others, with no overlap between the programmes, on sale 6 August at 2pm; then three concerts in Kaohsiung, Taipei and Pingtung in November with an almost entirely different roster and repertoire, her first Taiwan visit in 25 years. Permit, prices and programme all checked.

Site Update: Artist Pages Are Live, and Program Notes Now Cover 77 Works

Every performer now has a page of their own, carrying a biography and all of their upcoming concerts in our coverage. Eighty biographies are live in both languages, program notes have grown from 44 to 77 works, and the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra's full 2026-27 season is now listed.
