Shanghai Grand Theatre | Phantom December dates on sale, closing night sold out
The last 16 performances of the Phantom of the Opera 40th-anniversary Shanghai farewell season, 15 to 27 December, went on public sale at 11:00 on 25 August, which puts all 102 sittings of the run on sale. Checked sitting by sitting at 13:30 the same day, the closing night on 27 December already reads sold out. The earliest seat still available anywhere in the run is the matinee of 11 October, and most of what is left is in December.

At 11:00 on 25 August the Shanghai Grand Theatre put the last 16 performances of the Phantom of the Opera 40th-anniversary Shanghai farewell season on sale. They run from 15 to 27 December, with 21 December dark and Mondays off throughout. A priority window opened at 10:30 for 888VIP members of the Taishangjian mini-programme and for the theatre's own VIP members, capped at two tickets per performance per platform.
That completes the run. All 102 sittings between 29 September and 27 December are now released, in seven waves since 11 May, the largest of them the 28 dates put up on 27 May.
Checked two and a half hours in, and December is where the seats are
The availability below is the theatre's own label on each sitting, one of 充足 (plenty), 紧张 (limited) and 已约满 (full). We read all 102 at 13:30 on 25 August. Returns move these numbers, so this is a snapshot of that moment.
Both September sittings, the 29 September opening and 30 September, are full. Of 36 dates in October, 13 are full, 16 limited and 7 have plenty, and every full one falls inside the 1 to 11 October National Day holiday. November's 32 dates split evenly, 16 limited and 16 with plenty. Of December's 32, 31 have plenty.
One sitting went from plenty to full during the day, the evening of 27 December, which is the closing performance of the whole farewell season. The matinee that day still has seats.
At that moment the earliest performance still available anywhere in the run was the matinee of 11 October, and returns move that date earlier. For a reader who wants to choose a seat rather than take what is left, December is the only comfortable window, and 15 of the 16 dates released today still read as plenty.
Prices step up across three date bands
Tickets run ¥280 to ¥1580 across seven bands, A to G. Weekday pricing covers Tuesday to Thursday evenings and Sunday evenings; weekend pricing covers Friday evenings, both Saturday performances and Sunday matinees, and the 1 to 7 October holiday is charged at weekend rates. On top of that, each band steps up across three date windows, 30 September to 11 October, 13 October to 22 November, and 24 November to 27 December. Band A goes from ¥1280 to ¥1480 on weekdays and from ¥1380 to ¥1580 at weekends. Three performances are priced separately as gala nights, the 29 September opening, the 9 October birthday performance and the 27 December closing night, at ¥380 to ¥1580. One free exchange for existing tickets, closing 31 August
Anyone already holding a ticket can change it once, free, through the channel they bought it from, one exchange per ticket. The theatre has set the deadline at 23:59 on 31 August, after which the entitlement lapses. For a ticket holder who wants to move to one of the December dates released today, this is the last week to do it.
