We hold 597 bureau permit decisions relevant to our scope — classical, opera and ballet, or staged at a venue we index. 360 are not yet linked to an event, usually because the concert is not yet ticketed or sits at a venue we do not cover. Most recent permit decision: 2026-09-07.

When sources disagree about the same concert, we resolve in this order. Higher tiers sit closer to legal fact.

1. Tier 1 · Legal record

   Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism — permit for performances involving non-mainland artists

   Any commercial performance in Shanghai involving artists from outside the mainland — including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan — needs the bureau’s approval before it can be sold or staged, and the bureau publishes each decision. It names the production, dates, venue, number of performances and the presenting organisation. It is the only legally binding source we index, and it is usually issued before tickets go on sale — which is how a concert can be confirmed here before it is bookable anywhere, and how a revocation or date change surfaces before the venue updates its own site. To be exact: domestic-only performances are filed rather than licensed, so not every concert carries a permit — but essentially every international tour does.

2. Tier 2 · Presenter channels

   Venue and orchestra websites and official ticketing systems

   Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Cadillac Shanghai Concert Hall, Shanghai Grand Opera House and others. Programmes, artists, prices and on-sale status come from here.

3. Tier 3 · Official announcements

   Season brochures, press releases, official WeChat accounts and mini-programs

   Concerts announced but not yet ticketed — a newly published season, for instance — are listed as announced, with no invented date or price.

The ladder above is how we rank sources. This is which ones they are, and when each connection was last confirmed to work. When an interface changes quietly, the site looks exactly the way it looks in a genuinely quiet few weeks, so this date is worth more than any assurance.

  A Hangzhou orchestra, carried for its home season. Hangzhou is about an hour from Shanghai by rail, but an evening concert ends after the last train back — an overnight trip, not a day trip.

  Has no website. Tickets are sold only through a WeChat mini-program; the house announces publicly on its WeChat official account 上海大歌剧院SGOH (gh_1b7ddc26c76f), which is where our schedule and sale times come from.

  A producing company, not a venue. It announces only on WeChat, and its ticketing H5 is WeChat-OAuth gated, so we carry no booking URL.

• —Empty beats guessed. If a date, time or price has not been published officially, the field stays empty. We never infer one.
• —Cross-checked against the permit. Dates and venues are compared with the bureau's record; where they differ, the permit wins and the discrepancy is noted.
• —Reviewed before publication. Collection is automated, but a human reviews the result before it goes live — scrapers never write to the database.
• —Every event carries its sources and a last-checked date, shown in the Provenance block at the foot of its page.

Shanghai Concerts is not a ticket seller. We take no commission, no venue or promoter placement fees, and no payment for inclusion or ranking. Booking links point to official channels. Whether a concert is listed depends only on whether it falls within our scope.

This site publishes structured endpoints for language models and retrieval systems. Every event page carries schema.org MusicEvent markup; where a permit exists, its number is emitted as an identifier, with the issuing authority and the date it was granted.
