Shanghai Conservatory: 120 free seats for Raphaela Gromes on 9 September, booking open for one hour at noon on 8 September
Booking runs from 12:00 to 13:00 on 8 September, one ticket per person, with check-in between 18:30 and 19:30 on the night. Also this weekend: 《管乐的画展》 on 5 September is sold out, and two season-opening concerts are still on sale.

The German cellist Raphaela Gromes plays a single recital at the North Building Lecture Hall of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music on 9 September at 19:30. Admission is free and there are 120 seats. Booking opens at 12:00 on 8 September and closes at 13:00, through a form reached by QR code on the WeChat account 上音管弦系演出季, one ticket per person. Ticket holders must check in at the door of the hall between 18:30 and 19:30 on the night; after that the reservation lapses and the seat is given to someone else waiting.
She plays with Julian Riem, her duo partner since 2012. The first half is Richard Strauss's Cello Sonata in F major, Op. 6, written when he was about nineteen, with two rarities beside it: Offenbach's Op. 54 No. 3 for two cellos, written by a cellist, and the first movement of a 2006 trio by Jérôme Ducros. In the second half six cellists from the conservatory join her for Florence Price's Adoration, the aria from Victoria Yagling's suite, and Riem's own Carmen fantasy after Bizet.
Two season openings fall in the same weekend. On 5 September at 19:30 the Shanghai Opera House opens its 26/27 season at the Shanghai Concert Hall under Zhang Liang, fifteen numbers running from the quadrille out of Die Fledermaus to the can-can that closes the Orpheus overture, seven bands from ¥680 down to ¥80; tickets are sold only through the 阅读原文 link in the company's WeChat post, which has to be opened inside WeChat. On 6 September at 19:30 the Shanghai Philharmonic opens its 2026-2027 season at the Oriental Art Center with an all-Shostakovich programme under Zhang Yi for the composer's 120th anniversary, including the Chinese premiere of the choral symphony The Sun Shines Over Our Motherland; ¥480 to ¥50.
Also at 19:30 on 5 September, Pictures for Winds is sold out — the Shanghai Dandelion Symphonic Wind Orchestra's second anniversary concert at the He Luting Concert Hall under Cheng Ye, opening with Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition in a wind band arrangement. The box office showed no seats left on 2 September.
