Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra 2026-27 Season Opening Concert

The Shanghai Philharmonic opens its 2026-27 season with an all-Shostakovich programme for the composer's 120th anniversary, conducted by its artistic director Zhang Yi. It runs from the 1931 ballet suite The Bolt to the post-war oratorio The Song of the Forests, and includes the Chinese premiere of the cantata The Sun Shines Over Our Motherland, Op. 90. Both large choral works set Dolmatovsky and both need two choirs, children's and mixed, here the Spring Children's Choir and the Echo Festival Choir; the soloists are the tenor Kirill Popov and the bass Pavel Chernykh. 105 minutes with one interval.
