Shanghai Grand Theatre | 2026-27 season announced: eight solo recitals, and Phantom's farewell through 27 December

The Shanghai Grand Theatre announced its 2026-27 season on 19 August under the title Here & Now, in three strands. The season covers spoken drama, musicals, dance and concerts; we index the music, musical-theatre and dance — eighteen events. Spoken drama and immersive theatre are out of scope.

Eight One-Man-Show recitals

The Drama Theatre's solo series, all priced at 100/180/280/380 RMB. The first three are on sale; prices and on-sale dates for the rest are unpublished.

23 August, Yu Yuan and Kuang Junhong, flute and guitar — Mendelssohn, Schumann and Schubert, then Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Wen Ziyang and Piazzolla.
27 August, David Khrikuli, piano — Brahms Op. 119, Schumann's Kreisleriana, three Chopin.
19 September, Kristóf Baráti plays Bach — four of the six solo works, including the D minor Partita with the Chaconne.
6 December, Anna Geniushene, piano.
14 January 2027, Sun Zhuohan and KaJeng Wong in Schubert's Winterreise.
28 February 2027, Peter Jablonski, piano — Chopin, Szymanowski, Paderewski.
27 March 2027, Yungyung Guo plays Beethoven and Ligeti — the Diabelli Variations and the complete first book of the Études.
22 May 2027, Zhi-Jong Wang, violin.

Main house

The Phantom of the Opera, 40th-anniversary Shanghai farewell season, 29 September to 27 December, the only stop in mainland China, with Ramin Karimloo in the title role. Tickets 280 to 1580 RMB, on sale since 8 May; the box office currently holds eighty-four sittings through 13 December, with the rest of December unreleased.

Strauss Capelle Vienna, 2027 New Year's Concert, 31 December, conducted by Rainer Roos. About 120 minutes with an interval, 180 to 1280 RMB, on sale since 8 June; the programme is unpublished.

Spring's Last Wisp — The Swords animation concert on 19 September is a first performance in China, with the Hangzhou Philharmonic playing live. Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is set for June 2027 and the dance drama Dye House for 23–25 July 2027; neither has individual dates yet.

Drama Theatre

Treadmill, in Chinese, fourteen performances from 4 to 13 September, 180 to 580 RMB, on sale. My Fierce Ignorant Step has its Asian premiere on 16 and 17 October. The Brothers Karamazov returns 29 April to 9 May 2027.

What we left out

Death of a Salesman, Thunderstorm, Crocodile, Love Letters, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Man Who Wanted to Be a Penguin, The Adventures of the Little Red Hen and Inside No. 9 are spoken or immersive theatre. Under our scope ruling of 13 August 2026 they do not enter the calendar.
