Site Update: Artist Pages Are Live, and Program Notes Now Cover 77 Works

Three things this round: artist pages, more program notes, and Suzhou added to our coverage. The site currently lists 279 concerts across 21 venues, with 157 artists and 248 works.

Artist pages

Until now a performer was just a line of text on a concert page. Each one now has a page of their own, with a biography and every upcoming concert of theirs within our coverage — reachable by clicking any performer's name on a concert page.

Of the 138 artists with upcoming dates, 80 now have biographies in both languages, among them Leonidas Kavakos, Yo-Yo Ma, the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Emmanuel Pahud. The biographies state only what can be checked — birth year, competitions and posts held, notable recordings. Where we could not be accurate we left it blank, so the remaining artists have a concert list and no biography for now.

Program notes

Program notes have grown from 44 to 77 works. The 33 added this round were ordered by next performance date and cover late October through November, including Strauss's Don Juan, Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony, Sibelius's Lemminkäinen Suite, Shchedrin's Carmen Suite and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24. Each runs to a short paragraph on how the piece came about and what to listen for.

Suzhou joins the coverage

Shanghai to Suzhou is about 25 minutes by high-speed rail — a reachable concert radius for listeners here. All 18 concerts of the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra's 2026-27 season are now listed with venue, program, cast and price tiers. It is the first city outside Shanghai we have taken on.

Repairs you cannot see

A few things that affect machines rather than readers. Concert pages were emitting structured data without a price field, so search engines could not read the ticket range; that is fixed. Artist and composer links containing diacritics — Dénes Várjon, Lü Shao-Chia, Dvořák among them — were generating broken URLs, and have been rebuilt. Entries with no announced performance date are no longer submitted for indexing.

Next: biographies for the remaining artists, and descriptions for the concerts themselves. We would rather leave a gap than fill it with something we are not sure of.
