Leonidas Kavakos

Biography

Born in Athens in 1967, Leonidas Kavakos won the Sibelius Competition in 1985 and the Paganini Competition in 1988. He also appears increasingly as a conductor and has a long-standing chamber partnership with pianist Emanuel Ax. He is artist in residence with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra for the 2026-27 season, playing ten violin concertos across eight concerts from the opening night to the closing one.
