Mozart

Serenade in C major, K. 648

About the work

In September 2024 the Leipzig Municipal Libraries announced the discovery of a previously unknown work by the young Mozart, entered in the new Koechel catalogue as K. 648. The C major serenade is scored as a string trio — two violins and bass — in seven miniature movements, and its style points to Mozart's boyhood. Nicknamed "Ganz kleine Nachtmusik" in press coverage, it counts among the most striking Mozart finds of recent years.
