Mozart

Piano Concerto No. 22 in E-flat major, K. 482

About the work

Completed in Vienna in December 1785 for his own subscription concerts, K. 482 is Mozart's first piano concerto to include clarinets, and its wind writing gives the whole work a warm, serenade-like glow. The C minor Andante is a set of shadowed variations; contemporary report has the premiere audience demanding an immediate repeat — rare treatment for a slow movement. The hunting-rondo finale pauses, unexpectedly, for a courtly minuet episode.
