"Allegro" from Serenade No. 13 for Strings in G major, KV 525

About the work

Mozart entered this G major serenade in his personal catalogue in August 1787, while at work on Don Giovanni, calling it simply "a little night music"; why he wrote it remains unknown. The opening Allegro begins with an ascending fanfare figure that ranks among the most recognizable bars in Classical music. Serenades were background music for Viennese outdoor sociability, yet Mozart finished this one to a polish where nothing is incidental. This concert presents the first movement.
