Currentzis and musicAeterna Return in October — Shanghai Date and Venue Still Unannounced
Wu Promotion announced on August 7 that Teodor Currentzis will bring musicAeterna to Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing from October 11 to 19, 2026 — five concerts, two programs (all-Mozart and all-Beethoven), with pianist Eva Gevorgyan as soloist. The announcement gives no per-city dates, venues, prices or on-sale times. We checked the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism permit record, current through August 4: no permit has been issued for this tour, and until one is, the Shanghai date cannot go on sale.

Wu Promotion announced in the early hours of August 7 that conductor Teodor Currentzis will bring musicAeterna to Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing from October 11 to 19, 2026, for five concerts. Wu Promotion describes it as their fourth large-scale China tour together.
It is worth being explicit about what the announcement does not say: how the five concerts divide among the three cities, which night each city gets, which hall, what tickets cost, or when they go on sale. What is public so far is a list of cities, a date range, and two programs.
Two programs
One all-Mozart, one all-Beethoven — a clean split.
Mozart program: Overture to Le nozze di Figaro, K. 492; Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, K. 488 (soloist Eva Gevorgyan); and after the interval, Symphony No. 41 in C major, "Jupiter", K. 551.
Beethoven program: Coriolan Overture, Op. 62; Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Op. 60; and after the interval, Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92.
The Beethoven night pairs the Fourth and the Seventh with no concerto between them — a hard evening for the orchestra and a relentless one for the audience.
The soloist, and a claim that needs correcting
Eva Gevorgyan (born April 15, 2004) plays the Mozart K. 488.
The announcement calls her "the youngest finalist of the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition". That is not quite right. At the 2021 competition she did reach the final, and she received the special prize for the youngest female finalist. The youngest finalist award went to Canadian pianist J J Jun Li Bui (born June 10, 2004, sixth prize that year), who is about two months younger than she is. Gevorgyan herself did not place among the numbered prizes.
None of which diminishes her — we simply do not repeat publicity copy we have not checked.
Shanghai: no permit yet
A foreign commercial performance in Shanghai requires a permit from the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism before tickets may be sold or the concert given. Permits normally precede the on-sale date, which is why we treat them as the first test of whether a concert is real.
We re-swept the published permit decisions on August 7; the record is current through August 4. Twenty-three permits cover dates in October 2026, and none relates to this tour. Nor does the Shanghai Oriental Art Center's 2026/27 autumn-winter season, announced July 28 (40 productions, 68 performances), include it.
The ticketing side agrees. A nationwide search on Damai on August 7 for both "库伦奇斯" (Currentzis) and "音乐永恒" (musicAeterna) returned zero listings.
So the Shanghai date and venue cannot be confirmed, and tickets will not go on sale before a permit is issued. That is not bad news — the tour announcement has simply run ahead of the paperwork, which is normal for international tours.
October in Shanghai is already crowded
The October 11–19 window is not an empty one. Among the permitted October concerts we already list: Paavo Järvi, Alexandre Kantorow and the Estonian Festival Orchestra on October 22 (Oriental Art Center Concert Hall), and the chamber festival led by Argerich, Vengerov and Isserlis on October 24–25 at the same hall. The Ballet de l'Opéra de Lyon brings Lucinda Childs's Dance to the Shanghai Conservatory Opera House on October 14–16, and a minimalist group work by Christos Papadopoulos plays the Shanghai Grand Theatre on October 16–17.
Wu Promotion's own preview also flags the Vienna Philharmonic (October 18–24), the Bolshoi Ballet (October 4–26) and the Mariinsky Orchestra and Opera in Shanghai (October 22 – November 1). For those we have likewise found no Shanghai date or venue, and no corresponding permit.

Wu Promotion's preview gives date ranges throughout, but several of those Shanghai legs are already fixed — the halls have announced them, and the permits have been issued (all decided July 29):
- Rudolf Buchbinder and the Staatskapelle Berlin, the complete Beethoven piano concertos — November 7 and 9 at 19:30, Shanghai Grand Opera House, Soar Theatre, two performances. We already listed both dates from the hall's own announcement; the start time is what we added from the permit (沪文旅许[2026]4114). Wu Promotion's preview lists only "Thielemann × Berlin State Opera, Der Rosenkavalier, Nov 8–12" and does not mention these two concerts.
- Khatia Buniatishvili, piano recital — November 15 at 19:30, Oriental Art Center Concert Hall, where permit 沪文旅许[2026]4129 agrees with the hall's listing. The preview gives only the range Nov 10–23.
- Martha Graham Dance Company, centenary tour — November 21 at 19:15 and November 22 at 14:00, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, two performances. For this one the permit (沪文旅许[2026]4133) is so far the only public record. Again, the preview gives only Nov 10–23.
So permits do two jobs: they independently corroborate dates a hall has published, and they supply the start times official pages so often omit — and occasionally they are the only public record a concert has. Currentzis has neither yet. How we verify
A separate thread: the musicAeterna Choir is already on sale for next April
Worth noting on its own: the musicAeterna Choir, also founded by Currentzis, is confirmed for Shanghai and has been on sale for weeks — but not on this tour, and not under Currentzis.
On April 29 and May 2, 2027, the choir joins Long Yu and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra at the SSO Concert Hall for two Shostakovich programs: Symphonies Nos. 2 and 3, and Symphony No. 13, "Babi Yar", with baritone Matthias Goerne. The SSO bills it as the choir's Asian debut. Both belong to the SSO 2026-27 season and went on sale July 15.
When we will list this tour
Until an official date and venue are published — or a permit is issued — we will not create an event page for the Shanghai leg. We do not guess dates or fill in venues; we would rather leave them blank. The moment a permit appears, or Wu Promotion or a hall publishes details, we will update the same day and mark the release time on the on-sale calendar.
