Southern Echoes: Marcin Dylla Classical Guitar Recital

Almost entirely Spanish-speaking repertoire, along two lines. One is Spanish. Turina's Sevillana and Rodrigo's Invocación y danza are central to the guitar's literature, and Tárrega's four mazurkas are part of how the instrument moved from the salon to the concert platform. Manén's Fantasía-Sonata and Sánchez-Verdú's Scriptura I are less often heard; the latter is contemporary. The other is the Mexican composer Manuel Ponce, with three works. The Sonata clásica is written in homage to Sor, the Sonata romántica to Schubert, and the three mazurkas began life as piano pieces. Ponce worked closely with Segovia, and a good deal of the guitar's solo repertoire exists because of it. About 100 minutes.
