Camille Thomas & Julien Brocal — Cello and Piano

Camille Thomas and Julien Brocal play one cello-and-piano recital at the Shanghai Concert Hall main auditorium on 11 October 2026 at 17:30. First half: the Bach/Gounod Ave Maria and Brahms's Cello Sonata No. 1 in E minor, Op. 38. Second half: Chopin's Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 65, and Piazzolla's Le grand Tango. The Brahms has three movements and no slow one; the finale is a fugue. Chopin's Op. 65 was the last work he published in his lifetime, written in 1846 for the cellist Auguste Franchomme; when the two gave it in Paris in 1848 Chopin cut the first movement. Piazzolla dedicated Le grand Tango to Rostropovich in 1982, and Rostropovich did not play it for another eight years. Thomas was born in Paris in 1988 and signed to Deutsche Grammophon in 2017. She and Brocal have worked as a duo since The Chopin Project, and this date is part of their 2026-27 China tour. Neither has performed in Shanghai before.
