Antonio Pappano & London Symphony Orchestra Concert

The two nights have different programmes and different casts. Check which date you are buying. That is the presenter's own notice, not our inference. The London Symphony Orchestra brings works along two lines. One is Russian: Lyadov's The Enchanted Lake, Prokofiev's Third Piano Concerto and Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony. The other is Austro-German: Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola, K. 364, and Bruckner's Ninth Symphony. Antonio Pappano became the LSO's Chief Conductor in 2024, after twenty-two years as Music Director of the Royal Opera House. An opera background usually tells in repertoire like this, particularly in the finale of the Shostakovich, where the question of how much to mean it is the whole problem. Bruckner's Ninth is unfinished. He completed three movements before he died, leaving only sketches for a finale, so it is normally played in three and ends on the slow movement. About 90 minutes.
