The Woman with the Alabaster Box

About the work

Written in 1997 for the 350th anniversary of the diocese of Karlstad in Sweden, for unaccompanied choir. The text is the passage in Matthew in which a woman anoints Jesus with ointment from an alabaster box. It is a companion piece to Tribute to Caesar from the same year — the two are often programmed together — and uses the same spare, restrained tintinnabuli writing.
