New Wave — Shanghai Chinese Orchestra in Concert

About the performance

The Shanghai Chinese Orchestra hands a whole evening to its young players, under the twenty-something conductor Jin Yukuang. One of the six pieces is a world premiere: Xuanniao: Chronicle of the Golden Crow, written for erhu and orchestra by Li Cangxiao and Liu Yuhui, played by Dong Shiluan. The other five run from Sichuan opera percussion to full Chinese orchestra — a cross-section of thirty years of writing for these instruments.
