Alexandre Kantorow

French pianist, born 1997, son of the violinist and conductor Jean-Jacques Kantorow. In 2019, at twenty-two, he became the first French pianist to win the piano first prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition, taking with it the Grand Prix the jury has awarded only three times in the competition's history. The Gilmore Artist Award followed in 2024, making him its youngest recipient. He records exclusively for BIS, chiefly Saint-Saëns, Brahms and Russian repertoire, and played Ravel's Jeux d'eau beside the Seine at the opening of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
