Recital
The Chinese Beethoven 1: KaJeng Wong
About the performance
This concert opens the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra's Chinese Beethoven series. 2027 is the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death. The series runs over two seasons, and 11 Chinese pianists each play one concert. The Hong Kong pianist Kajeng Wong plays the Piano Sonata No. 1 (Op. 2 No. 1) and the Eleven Bagatelles (Op. 119), then the Sonata No. 29, 'Hammerklavier' (Op. 106), after the interval. About 90 minutes with the interval. The SSO's notes say a documentary on his years of study took the Golden Horse award for best documentary. They also say he played and conducted Mozart concertos with his own ensemble at the 2026 Shanghai Summer Music Festival.
