About the performance
A crossover piano recital, drawing on film scores, pop songs and a few classical pieces. Sakamoto's Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Morricone's The Legend of 1900, Zimmer's Interstellar, Radwimps' Grand Escape from Your Name and Kenshi Yonezu's Lemon form the Japanese and Hollywood strands. The Chinese songs include Jay Chou's Blue and White Porcelain, JJ Lin's Cao Cao and Peng Fei's So Many People in the World. The classical items are Debussy's Suite bergamasque and a fantasy on Pachelbel's Canon. We file this as crossover rather than classical. The programme is enjoyable on its own terms; it is simply a different thing from a recital in the same hall, and saying so plainly beats leaving it vague. About 105 minutes.
