Butterworth

George Butterworth was born in London in 1885 and belonged to the first generation of the English pastoral school, collecting folk songs alongside Vaughan Williams. Almost everything he wrote dates from 1911 to 1914; he was killed on the Somme in August 1916, aged thirty-one.
