An Unaccompanied September
Six recitals in Shanghai this September are built on unaccompanied Bach. The D minor Partita — the one that ends with the Chaconne — is played three times in eleven days, by three violinists, in three different halls.

No theatre programmed this. Three houses each planned their own season and the results collided in one month, and it is only visible if you flatten a whole city's programmes into one list.
BWV 1004 three times: Lozakovich at the Shanghai Concert Hall on 11 September, Barati in the Grand Theatre's Studio Theatre on the 19th, Hadelich in the Symphony Hall on the 22nd. Three players, three rooms, eleven days. One work recurring that densely in one city is not normal.
The cello side is a different kind of pairing. On 19 September Weilerstein takes the first two suites apart and interleaves them with commissions from twenty-seven living composers — no interval, no printed programme. Eight days later Queyras plays all six straight through in the same hall. Broken up and whole, in the same month.
The evening of the 19th is the whole thread in miniature: Barati plays solo Bach violin at 19:30 in one theatre while Weilerstein plays solo Bach cello at 19:15 in another. You can only be at one.
