Tan Dun

A composer and conductor born in Hunan in 1957. He has conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw, the London Symphony, the Boston Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the orchestra of La Scala, and has been creative director of the Philadelphia Orchestra's tours and composer-in-residence with the BBC Symphony. As a composer his score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon won both an Academy Award and a Grammy; Buddha Passion and the organic music series are his recent preoccupations. He is dean of the Bard College Conservatory of Music.
