Pan Yan

A cellist on the faculty of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He took a master's in cello at Ithaca College and an artist diploma at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and was selected for a young musicians' programme in Hamburg. He has been principal cello of the Ithaca Youth Symphony and a player with the Hong Kong Philharmonic. He won the top prize in the youth division of China's sixth national cello competition, and his Nirvana Trio was the first Chinese ensemble to take first prize in the piano trio division of the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition. He has given Chinese premieres of cello works by Britten, Offenbach, Tcherepnin, Tschintsadze, Servais and Rita Strohl.
