Maxim Vengerov

Biography

Born in Novosibirsk in 1974, Maxim Vengerov won the junior Wieniawski Competition in 1984 and the Carl Flesch Competition in 1990. A shoulder injury took him away from the violin for several years from 2007, during which he turned to conducting before returning to playing. In the same year he became the first classical musician appointed a UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassador.
